Pat Hamill Inspires Graduates to Give Back
At the University of Denver’s 2023 Commencement Ceremony, BuildStrong Foundation Founder Pat Hamill received an honorary doctorate and delivered a powerful message on generosity and impact.
Pat surprised graduates by announcing that each would receive $500 alongside their diploma, encouraging them to use it to make a difference. Whether keeping it if needed, giving it to someone who does, or joining together with classmates to create collective impact.
His message was simple yet profound: true success comes from generosity, character, and lifting others up. Pat’s call to “keep it real and do something that matters” embodies the heart of BuildStrong’s mission to strengthen communities through giving.
The Carmel Classic Invitational is more than golf, it’s a purpose-driven gathering that has raised over $4.9 million to support education, housing, jobs, and youth programs nationwide.
Overview
The Carmel Classic Invitational is BuildStrong Foundation’s largest annual event and a world-class experience with a deeper purpose. Hosted at Pebble Beach and led by BuildStrong Foundation and its 29 generous Founders, the invitation-only tournament brings together 100 couples each year to raise critical funds for organizations that champion education, youth development, housing, job creation, and other community needs.
Thanks to the Founders underwriting 100% of event costs, every dollar raised through participation, sponsorships, and auctions goes directly into supporting communities.
How it works
Donation: $40,000 per team
Directed Giving: 50% of each donation may go to the donor’s 501(c)(3) of choice
Charitable Partners: The remaining 50% supports Founders-selected charitable partners
Sponsorships: Sponsors also contribute goods and services for the online silent auction
Impact
Since its inception, the Carmel Classic has awarded over $4.9 million in grants through 2024, transforming lives and strengthening communities nationwide. In 2025 alone, the event is projected to raise $1.5 million in additional grant allocations.
By leveraging partnerships and strategic grants, the Carmel Classic model amplifies every dollar 2–5x, expanding the reach and impact of each contribution.
